Uses for double-sided mounting tapes on car interiors
So, what can double-sided mounting tape be used for on car interiors? Here are a few of the tasks this high-strength automotive tape can help most with, from securing interior mirrors to attaching interior trim components.
Interior car mirror mounting
Double-sided mounting tapes are also an excellent choice for interior car mirror mounting. Whether you’re replacing a broken rear-view mirror or re-mounting glass that has loosened or fallen out, these tapes can make sure that the glass stays in place no matter what.
We recommend using our High Strength Acrylic Tape for this job because of its excellent durability and strength. To attach an interior car mirror using this double-sided mounting tape, follow the three simple steps below:
- Clean the backing plate & remove the old glass if necessary: If the old glass is still in place either fully or partially, this will need to be carefully removed using a metal or plastic scraper. Lodge this underneath the glass to loosen it from the backing plate. Once you’ve removed it, the backing plate should be thoroughly cleaned with rubbing alcohol and a clean cloth to make sure no dirt, oil or adhesive residue remains.
- Apply the tape: Cut two or three strips of our High-Strength Acrylic Tape and apply these vertically on the left right and middle of the back of your new mirror. Once you’re happy with the placement, you can remove the protective release liner to reveal the double-sided adhesive.
- Secure it in place: Press the interior mirror glass to the backing plate, making sure to apply pressure over any areas with tape. This will ensure you achieve a strong bond.
Bonding interior car trim components
Reattaching interior trim components that have become loose? Adding some personal touches with custom trims for a customer? We recommend using Grey Double-Sided Acrylic Tape which is not only good for attaching interior car trim components, but it’s also ideal for mounting external trim parts. This high-tack adhesive can provide an excellent bond, which means that it can be trusted not to loosen and compromise the safety of your customers when they’re driving.
Again, the application process is simple and easy since it doesn’t require any drilling or screwing. It’s also worth noting that if you’re removing and replacing an interior trim component, you’ll need to remove this first which might involve locating screws or fastenings and loosening these accordingly. If you’re simply attaching a new glovebox, pillar trim or other plastic interior trim part, you can go straight in and clean the area with rubbing alcohol and a clean cloth to remove any dust, dirt or debris.
Once the area is clean, you can cut and apply Grey Double-Sided Acrylic Tape to the back of the trim component wherever it will bond to the car’s interior. You should apply as many pieces of tape as necessary to make sure the bond will be safe and secure. When you’re happy that you’ve added enough tape and placed it correctly, you can remove the protective release liner and expose the double-sided adhesive ready to bond to the car’s interior. The final step is to attach the piece of trim and press down firmly where the tape has been applied to secure it.
